The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognizance of a report on child bonded labour and human trafficking in the tribal regions of Udaipur and adjoining districts of Rajasthan. The information was submitted by the National Crime Investigation Bureau (NGO), West Bengal Team – Manish Jain.
According to the complaint, children aged 8 to 12 years are being mortgaged or sold for ₹20,000–₹45,000 to herders from Sirohi, Pali and neighbouring areas. The children are allegedly forced to walk 30–35 kilometres daily with livestock, deprived of food, rest and medical care, and in many cases abandoned when they fall ill. Rescue operations in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have confirmed several victims.Considering the allegations as prima facie human rights violations, the NHRC Bench led by Member Shri Priyank Kanoongo has directed key state authorities to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within four weeks.

Principal Secretary, Department of Women & Child Development, Rajasthan
SPs of Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Sirohi and Pali.
The complaint cites violations under the Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act, Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Right to Education Act, and Articles 21, 23 and 24 of the Constitution.The National Crime Investigation Bureau (NGO) said that urgent intervention and strict enforcement are essential to safeguard vulnerable children.
Children must not be subjected to exploitation under any circumstances. Strong and coordinated action is necessary to prevent such abuse and ensure protection in tribal regions.
